To bookmakers and other close watchers of African football, Nigeria’s U-23 national football team have been handed a tough draw as they bid to reach the men’s Olympic football event competition in Brazil 2016.

Dream team VI, as the team is called, will face Algeria, Mali and Egypt in Group B of the Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal from November 28 to December12, 2015

The good news is that Coach Samson Siasiahas assembled what may the most enterprising squad, similar to the gold-winning 1996 Atlanta US squad. In-form stars like Alex Iwobi, Godwin Sokari and Taiwo Awoniyi are in the team.

Dream Team VI begin their search for a ticket to Brazil this evening with a top-of-the-bill clash against Mali at the Stade Caroline Faye, M’Bour. The match kicks off at 6pm Nigerian Time. Coach Siasia, whose kidnapped mother was freed yesterday in his home state of Bayelsa, has promised to celebrate the happy development with a win against Mali.

Meanwhile, Hosts Senegal will play South Africa, Zambia and Tunisia in Group A.

Only the top three sides at the tournament will qualify for the football event of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro.
