Solari signs three-year deal to remain as Real Madrid manager

Santiago Solari has signed a three-year contract to remain Real Madrid manager through the 2020-21 season.

Named interim boss after Julen Lopetegui’s sacking , Solari has guided Madrid to four wins from four games in charge thus far.

As Madrid’s search for a permanent boss from outside the club failed to bear fruit, Solari has impressed by restoring an air of calm to the dressing room following a tumultuous period under Lopetegui. The Argentine manager has now signed a contract ensuring he and his staff will remain in charge at Santiago Bernabeu for the rest of the current season, and two more subsequent campaigns after that.

Madrid’s search for a new manager initially focused on former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, but the Italian eventually ruled himself out of the running until at least the summer.

In the meantime Solari, who had previously been in charge of Madrid’s reserve side, began achieving results that his predecessor had failed to accomplish.

Last week’s Champions League win at Viktoria Plzen marked the first time all season that Madrid had won three straight games, and the Blancos followed that up by defeating Celta Vigo 4-2 on Sunday. The win at Celta gave Solari four wins from four games in charge, with 15 goals scored and just two conceded.

Those four victories have come in three different competitions, with three of them coming away from home.

Solari has also been able to more successfully integrate new faces like Thibaut Courtois, Vinicius Jr, Alvaro Odriozola and Sergio Reguilon into the side. (Goal)
