Brown Ideye claims he is still committed to earning his place back in the Nigeria national team despite having been frozen out by coach Gernot Rohr.
The forward last featured for the Super Eagles in a World Cup qualification encounter against Zambia on October 9, 2016 in Ndola.
Malaga’s Ideye featured for the country in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations – scoring a goal against Mali in the semi-final - and also played a role in the Fifa Confederations Cup in Brazil. Despite the constant snub from national team selectors, the 30-year-old is adamant he has not given up of hope of forcing his way back into the team. “My wish every day is to play for the Super Eagles because I love my country and will not shy away from turning up for the national team if invited by technical adviser Gernot Rohr,” Ideye told Goal.
“A return to the team is my immediate ambition and that fuels me to work hard every time. “No doubt that there are a lot of talented players in the squad now, however, I know there a lot of value I can add if given the nod.
“I happy about being fit again and now, I have to step on the gas. “I look forward to being able to feature in Cameroon 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and end up on the winning side. I want to experience a final like that of South Africa 2013 again.” With Rohr already naming his squad for the qualifier against South Africa, Ideye would be hoping to return when the three-time African kings host Seychelles on March 22, 2019.
