Champions Manchester City, Everton, Arsenal, Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers all recorded wins on Saturday, on a day, Jose Mourinho’s boys were condemned to another defeat by West Ham.
In a late flourish, Arsenal got two goals against visiting Watford, one a gift from Craig Cathcart in the 81st minute. Two minutes after, Mesut Ozil doubled Arsenal’s advantage, with an assist provided by Alexandre Lacazette.
It was Arsenal’s fifth successive victory in the league. They move fifth tied on the same 15 points with fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester City also made it four consecutive Premier League victories with a 2-0 success against Brighton & Hove Albion. And they are now top of the league, with 19 points. Second placed Liverpool can go up, if they defeat Chelsea in the cracker later today.
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for City just before the half-hour mark, finishing off a quick counter-attack involving Aguero and Leroy Sane.
Sergio Aguero had an acrobatic overhead kick blocked after four minutes.
He found the back of the net himself with 25 minutes remaining, playing a one-two with Sterling before finding the bottom right corner.
Man City next match will be against Liverpool at Anfield on 7 October move top.
In Newcastle, Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire compounded the misery of Benitez boys as they scored a goal in each half as Leicester City won 2-0 at Newcastle United.
Leicester went ahead at St. James Park from the penalty spot in the 30th minute when Jamie Vardy scored after DeAndre Yedlin had handled a Maguire shot.
Leicester doubled their advantage on 73 minutes.
A corner from the right by James Maddison found Maguire, who powered his header beyond Martin Dubravka.
Newcastle, without a win this season are in 18th with two points. Leicester are now 7th with 12 points.
In other matches, Everton destroyed Fulham 3-0. Wolves defeated Southampton 2-0, the same margin of victory for Tottenham at Huddersfield Town. (NAN)
