Roger Federer has eased into the fourth round of the US Open after absolutely decimating Nick Kyrgios.
The Swiss legend, targetting what would be a record sixth men’s title at Flushing Meadows, came into the much-anticipated clash onthe back of some fone tennis in the early rounds.
Kyrgios was expected to put upa challenge, but he was out-fought, out-played, and out-classed in Arther Ashe Stadium, with Federer claiming a dominant 6-4 6-1 7-5 win.
Federer will now face Kyrgios’ fellow Australian John Millman in the round of 16 after the Brisbane native overcame Mikhail Kukushkin 6-4 4-6 6-1 6-3.
“He’s my hero,” Millman said of Federer.
“It will be a challenge and at least I am in the position to have that challenge.”
“This is the biggest moment of my career,” said Millman.
“It’s been a bumpy road. I have had three surgeries and every time I had extreme doubts over whether I would get back.
“But I have got great people around me who lift me up when I’m feeling sorry for myself.” (Tennis 365)
