Wilder needs ‘clarification’ on two details in Joshua fight contract, says manager

Deontay Wilder is yet to sign on the dotted line to face Anthony Joshua because he is waiting on ‘clarification’ on two details in the contract, according to his manager.

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn issued Wilder with the contract last week and has been impatiently urging the WBC champion to put pen to paper.

Wilder is happy to come to the UK to fight Joshua, and that decision seems to have been the concession the two camps needed to move forward with the historic unification clash.

Very little negotiating going on between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, says Espinoza

But, after Hearn suggested Wilder is just bluffing and has no intention of fighting Joshua, the American’s manager, Shelly Finkel, insisted there was a legitimate hold up.

“We looked at the contract on Monday and raised two specific details in the paperwork that we needed clarification of,’ Finkel told World Boxing News.

“It’s frustrating as Eddie Hearn is stating in the media that we need to be quick and sign the contract, but how can we sign if they don’t respond to our email and clarify our concerns?

“If we are being rushed we really need to hear back from Barry in order to be able to complete things on our side.”

There has been a lot of finger pointing during talks with Hearn continually hitting out at Wilder and his team.

Wilder though has always insisted Hearn is blocking the fight between him and Joshua, accusing the Brit of protecting his ‘cash cow’.

If an agreement is not reached with Wilder, Joshua will fight his mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin in September in London.

Terms have already been agreed with Povetkin and the Russian is waiting to see if a unification showdown will push him off the main stage.

Should the unbeaten Joshua and Wilder go to war, it will be the first time all four major world titles have been up for grabs in a heavyweight fight. (Mirror)
