Ganduje Urges Schools to Promote Sports

Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullah Umar Gandauje, has encouraged public and private schools in the state to complement government efforts in promoting sport activities in the state.

The Governor made the call on Thursday while declaring opened the first Annual Sport Competitions for Private Schools organised by the National Association of Private Schools Proprietors, Kano State branch, held at Sani Abacha Stadium.

Ganduje, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, maintained that sport is one of the important pillars that sharpen the students’ brain towards proper understanding of teachers’ lessons.

“Indeed, sport is a very important pillars in terms of education because sport itself is a complete section of education and with sport, we can be able to develop and empower a lot of people,” he said.

The Governor emphasised that it was in view of this development, the present administration created the Ministry of Youth and Sport as parts of the effort to improve sport activities in the state.

He however extended hands of sportsmanship to other organisations in the state, adding: “I am particularly calling upon banks and cooperate organisations to come and join hands in developing issues of sport and our youths in general.”

On the sport competitions, Dr. Ganduje expressed optimism that apart from the health and physical advantages of these games to the pupils, it is also a way of developing sport talents that one day make them Olympic medalists.

“Through our youth or the pupils of primary schools, ranging from nursery school, as we are witnessing today, we can be able to model from this early stage and fish out these talents in them and I am sure part of them are going to be Olympic medalists,” said Ganduje.

Abdullahi Ganduje then extended his appreciation for the successful conduct of the annual sport competition and assured for continuous partner with National Association of Private Schools Proprietors.

Earlier, the President National Association of Private Schools Proprietors, Hajiya Maryam Magaji, said the competition was organised to bring self belongings among the Pupils and improve their physical fitness among others.

She restated the commitment of their association towards complementing Government effort in enhancing the standard of education in the state.

At the end of the competition, Group G comprising private schools from Na’ibawa, Unguwa Uku, Kura and Ciromawa came first while Group B which comprises private schools from Nasarawa Local Government Area came second.
