Watford and Nigerian international striker Isaac Success has set up a football foundation to tap into the talent pool of young footballers in Nigeria with a view to turning them into top professionals in the near future.

The Foundation known as the Isaac Success Foundation is a football academy majorly and it is based in Benin City.

The Academy formally kicked off activities in Benin City a couple of days ago at the School of Health Technology in Dumez Road of the city with the young players all full of life and expectations.

The coach of the Isaac Success Foundation is Tayo Adeleke, a very experienced football coach, administrator and scout. Mr Adeleke has been responsible for scouting some exciting young talents and recommending them to big clubs in the past. Now he has the responsibility of finding and grooming the right talents for the Isaac Success Foundation.

“We have cast our dragnet far and wide throughout the country. The focus of getting good young players is not on Benin City or Edo State alone. So far we have got some good players and some others have not been able to meet our expectations. But I'm excited about where we are heading,” Mr Adeleke told me.

I’ve been at a couple of training sessions of the team and the level of dedication amongst the players has been high.

Last Saturday, they had a warm up match with a selected side at the School of Health playing field and they blew their opponents apart 4-2 with some quick free flowing football.

One of the players of the selected side told me: “Wow, these (Isaac Success) guys are very good. They simply blew us apart. They tired us out with their work ethic and I won’t like to meet them again.”

A unique selling point about the Isaac Success Academy is the high level of contacts that the owner has. Success knows a good deal of top football coaches, club owners, agents, etc, on a personal level and it is expected that players who perform well can be directly and swiftly linked to the right places where they can become professionals.

“He (Success) has mandated us (the management) of the foundation to just do our best to nurture top quality players. He’s ready to push a player who is truly ready to any length as far as getting a worthwhile professional deal is concerned,” Adeleke said.

The Isaac Success Foundation, Adeleke adds, is open to doing business with other youth clubs in terms of players transfer. “We want to help as much youngsters as possible to reach greater heights. Giving them that hope and belief is a great deal important to keep the players focused,” Adeleke explained.

Plans are on to acquire the very best facilities for the academy to run smoothly. Already, a camp has been set up where the dozens of players are already enjoying good homely comfort as they focus on their intense sessions.

One of the players, Wisdom Osazuwa from Delta State, said: “I’m excited to be in Benin City to be part of the Isaac Success Foundation. Success is a big inspiration to me and I want to be like him. I’m grateful to him for this opportunity he has given us to express ourselves and I want to grab it fast.”

While many Nigerian players set up football academies only after their playing days, it is a testament to the foresight, care and business acumen of Isaac Success to have opened a football foundation while he’s still actively playing as a professional.
