2022 Commonwealth Games: Aruna Leads Nigeria To Victory Vs South Africa In Men’s Team Event

Quadri Aruna led Nigeria to defeat South Africa in the Men’s Team – Group 2 table tennis event at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on Friday.

Aruna and Olajide Omotayo picked up wins in the singles while Amadi Omeh and Omotayo won in the doubles.

Against South Africa’s Shaun Jones, Aruna triumphed in three straight sets (11 -6,11 – 3, 12 -10) with Omotayo replicating the feat against another South African Chetan Nathoo (11 – 9, 11 -6, 11-6).

And in the men’s doubles, both Omotayo and Omeh beat South Africa’s Theo Cogill and Nathoo 3-0 (11 -5, 11-5, 11 -5).

The Nigerian trio will play Ghana by 7.30pm in their second group match by 7.30pm later on Friday.

Earlier in the day the Nigerian women’s team led by Offiong Edem beat St Vincent and The Grenadines and will face Singapore by 5pm in their second group fixture.
