All attention is focused on the ongoing Women Africa Cup Of Nations )WAFCON) holding in Morocco and as usual our own Super Falcons team as defending Champions is in the North African country sweating it out against others.

The setting has drastically changed from when Super Falcons and few other countries are dominant women teams on the scene. Now any country that did not prepare well would get bundled out unceremoniously from the Women football summit.

Our Super Falcons haven won the tournament for a record ten (10) times was shocked at the opening group game last week Monday by the Bayana Bayana of South Africa for the second in quick succession.

It was headline news all over the World a fate worth celebrating.

And since after the team put her feet wrong against arch  rivals, the Nigerian bench and the players have woken up decisively, brace up and started what they knew how best to do in order to remain in the championship.

One believes that it served as note of warning and lesson for the Super Falcons that years of her dominance in Women football scene are over for good. Other countries are tired of playing second fiddle and so are working hard to occupy the frontline.

It is no longer business as usual countries want or feel like staying on top must work extra hard to achieve that.

The days of minnows in the continent’s women football are over. Football playing nations are drastically closing the gap and steadily too not pretending about it.

One prays that Super Falcons would remain focused and keep their eyes on the ball as competition lasts.

The technical crew should have known by now that it won’t be an easy task defending the trophy, there are many nations their eyes are there to ensure Nigeria is out of their way enroute the diadem.

 But methinks that despite the initial set back in the first match, the Nigerians can go all the way with determination, experience, focus and playing to instruction.

 The Super Falcons have players who have the capacity to win any championship even when such goes into crunchy time.

If the team continues with the way and manner it has resorted then Super Falcons can take it from there into this next round.

As the Nigerian team has picked ticket for the next round, my take is still on their ability to turn things around when the chips are down. As one prays for the team to increase her upbeat performance now that the tide is high, it is nice to point out here that Super Falcons can beat the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroun on Thursday 14th of July, looking back home nay the world and the teeming supporters drumming, clapping and cheering the defending champs. 

I wish them well.
