Iwobi Opens Up On Best Positions For Everton & Nigeria

By Daily Sports on September 19, 2021

Nigerian star Alex Iwobi believes that his best playing position at his club, Everton is as a winger.

The 25-year-old player has been used as a right wing-back, attacking midfielder, and winger during his time at the English Premier League club by different managers.

Iwobi began his professional career at Premier League giants Arsenal FC where he was likened to his uncle and Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha, who played dominantly as a playmaker during his playing days.

“I think playing different roles has helped me to understand the game a bit more, especially those defensive roles,” Iwobi told the club’s official website.

“I’m not going to complain – playing right wing-back, right midfield, left midfield, I’ll play anywhere and I’ll always give my best while he is better either as a number ten or number eight for Nigeria.

The dreadlocked player went on to state that he enjoys playing as a number 8 or number 10 for his national team, the Super Eagles.

“My aim is to get more goals and assists but if I’m asked to do it at right wing-back, then I’ll do it and try my best,” he continued.

“I think, for Everton, my best position for the team is probably out wide. For my national team, it’s completely different and I do like playing in the midfield as a number 8 or number 10.

“I feel like I can play in any position. For each manager and each team it’s going to be different.”

Iwobi has scored once and provided one assist from five matches across all competitions for Everton thus far in the current campaign.

He also grabbed two assists for Nigeria as they defeated Liberia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier earlier this month. (African Football)
