The driver of Adamawa United Football Club, Kabiru Mohammed, who was kidnapped last weekend, has been released.

Our correspondent learnt the driver was released about 11.30 Wednesday night.

The Adamawa United FC driver was kidnapped along Benin-Ore-Lagos road when the club bus was attacked by gunmen who swooped on them from the bush.

The gunmen had taken the money and phones of players and officials of the team and abducted the driver.

The driver had since been held by the kidnappers who asked for a ransom of N50 million.

The football team had been on their way to keep a date with MFM Football Club, Lagos, on a week 11 NPFL fixture.

Permanent Secretary of the Adamawa State Ministry of Youths and Sports, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar Jada who spoke on the team driver’s release, said all is now fine.

“I spoke with him, he was very coherent, he is on his way back (towards Yola) now,” the permanent secretary said.

Aliyu Jada who had been the one negotiating the terms of release of the driver, did not disclose how much was finally paid to secure the release of the driver.

The sports ministry permanent secretary expressed gratitude to the mass media for the publicity that the attack on his team and the driver’s kidnap got.

He said, “I want to thank the media particularly SWAN; I have received calls from within and outside the country; we are very grateful for the publicity.” (The Nation)
