Napoli Chief: I Believe Koulibaly Is Staying

Napoli chief Cristiano Giuntoli has expressed his belief that Kalidou Koulibaly will remain with the Serie A club.

The Senegalese defender has been strongly linked with a move away from the Stadio San Paolo, and Premier League giants such as Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are listed as the player’s most prominent admirers.

However, Napoli have stood firm in their ambition of keeping Koulibaly in the squad, with manager Gennaro Gattuso building a resurgent Neapolitan team in which the 29-year-old is a central figure.

Giuntoli insists that Napoli’s work in the current transfer market is done, both in terms of incoming and outgoing players.

“The team was completed in January with Stanislav Lobotka and Diego Demme, who can play in a few different roles,” he is quoted by Tribal Football.

“With Amir Rrahmani, [Victor] Osimhen and [Andrea] Petagna, we are complete, so will now try to release players who won’t have much time on the pitch.

“I think Koulibaly is staying, we are very happy and so is he. I believe that he is staying.”

Koulibaly will hope to lead Napoli to a statement win when they face Serie A champions Juventus on the evening of Sunday 4 October. (African Football)
