Plateau, Enyimba, Pillars, Rivers Brace Up for African Championship Challenge

By Daily sports on September 7, 2020

If I don’t open this piece this way this week, then I don’t need to look too far if I earn for my good self, the unenviable name of an ungrateful man. God forbid, I will never be so called or referred to as one.

Great readers of Daily Sports (www.dailysportsng.com), you are the best ever to happen to me in recent times. I will remain ever indebted to you for being there and even showing your solidarity when yours truly in sports was unnecessarily attacked by one idler James Amadi, an errand boy to River State Commissioner for Sports Boma Iyaye.

The kind of solidarity I received from you was unprecedented and overwhelming. Let me restate here that I was not surprised as you have been very loyal readers. I remain thankful. We remain vigilant as we focus on this job despite distractions from the likes of Boma Iyaye and his attack errand dogs.

This week, we will dear readers look at critically and briefly discuss the clubs that will bear Nigeria’s flag in both continental football Championships, CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

To refresh your memories, CAF has released the dates for the Championships and it is incumbent on the management of teams that would represent the country to prepare well so as not to be booted out in the very first game off the Championship.

My candid advice remains that instead of chasing shadows as Boma Iyaye and his errand attack boys have been embarking upon, they should sit back and work closely with the management and technical crew of Rivers United FC so that the team would make great impact in the category it secured to play in.

A recap Plateau United and Enyimba International will slug it out with other African teams in the premier African Club Championship, CAF Champions League while Rivers United and Kano Pillars will compete in the second tier of African club competition.

While that is disputable despite the noise and hot air from Boma Iyaye, the need to ensure that right players are recruited and deep-rooted blending of the players done in order to get the needed results and not to pack star players from other teams and dump them together achieving no tangible result on the field of play is instructive.

One would point out vividly here that Enyimba International FC, an undisputed most successful team in the country today having won the most prestigious Club Championship CAF Champions League back to back and many NPFL shields to show, from reports, lost many of her key players to other clubs that will vie for honour in continent.

However, one other thing going smoothly for the Aba Elephants is that the team is multifaceted from the management to technical, supportership and players. Its chairman Felix Anyansi Agwu, though l am not one of his fans but have not failed to give it to him when he does it right, knows African football terrain like the back hands of his palms. It is natural and instructive that the teams that will bear our flag must close ranks and give the challenge strong shot instead of the other way round.

Plateau United, Pillars and Rivers are crack sides in their own rights and with right recruitment and blending of the new players with the old ones perfectly, no doubt there will be harmony because other African teams are eagerly waiting.

We are monitoring closely and wish the teams well from start to finish. Let us discuss on our handles as it trends. Keep shooting hard till next week!! The struggle Continues.
