As you must have heard, our man, Victor Osimhen, has finally settled to lace his boots for one of Italian giants, Napoli FC. It’s obviously an accomplishment every fan and football loving Nigerian must hail to high heavens. That, too, is a great boost for the Super Eagles camp. Victor, as this digital newspaper has constantly written, must brace up decisively to justify this great leap forward in his football career. We once again rejoice with him, that at last the mouth-watering contract has been signed and sealed. 

But this week, dear readers, we’re looking beyond Victor in the turf of soccer to another champion in the murky waters of politics who has also been victorious in sports. We will take a critical look at Ondo State sports and take a stand on sports that have taken drastic dip down the drains since 2015.

Let me say here that from the onset, as a sports writer or reporter, my main concern all these years has been to do what would benefit the players, coaches and other critical stakeholders and such has remained my first love. Whoever that would patriotically bear the cross do get my support of widespread mobilization via this very widely read digital all sports newspaper that is also Google worldwide compliant.

Many readers would be surprised to note that Eyitayo Olayinka Jegede, an eminent Lawyer and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for October 10, gubernatorial election in Ondo State was a great sports man. In short, he fully participated in sports in his heydays while in Secondary School and his University days in Lagos.

Let me say vividly here that his participation in sports – volleyball was the best tradition of the family.

Recall that during his years in Christ School Ado Ekiti, he was the school Volleyball Captain even in Aquinas College Akure 1978 – 1980. As a matter of fact, he captained the University of Lagos Volleyball team from 1980 – 1983. That executive summary score-card no doubt stands the respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), as one that would give five-star priority to sports of all shades if he gets the Ondo peoples’ nod come October 19, 2020.
