Delta State Agog As NLO Clubs Hit Ughelli For Preseason Tourney; European Scouts Storm Sapele To Pick Talented Grassroots Players

The home of football in Nigeria, Delta State, will come alive in a couple of days and for about a month it will be football all the way.

It starts in the town of Sapele on Saturday, January 25 when top rated football scouts from Italy, Norway and Sweden will be on hand to check out some of the fine grassroots football talents of some youth clubs at the Sapele township stadium.

The 3-day event will see the players of some of the finest youth clubs in the south of Nigeria exhibiting their skills with the hopes of making enough impression to catch the eyes of the visiting scouts. Of course, getting a contract to play in Europe is the big prize and that allure guarantees that the scouting event would be a fascinating one.

There are 12 clubs invited for the Sapele scouting event and they include Sapele-based Academy for Stars and Ejele FC, Benin City sides Benin Warriors FC, Rockers, Yak FC and Rolly FC.

Also invited are Ughelli top grassroots club Excellent FC.

The chief organiser of the program is Elvis Evruje the proprietor of Academy for Stars FC. 

Ughelli Pre-Season Cup

Football action will shift to Ughelli on the 29th of February as top sides of the Nationwide League One (NLO) would be in town to do battle in the prestigious annual Ughelli Preseason cup. This year's edition, the 9th edition, will feature some of the finest clubsides of the Nigerian amateur league including the likes of Vermad FC of Enugu, Udala FC of Anamb, Unnich FC of Abia, Sunsel FC of Oghara, T'Akoma FC and Real Saphire of Lagos.

The Chief Organiser of the Ughelli Preseason competition Johnbul Onome promises visiting teams that they will enjoy their stay in Ughelli, as efforts to put accommodation facilities in good shape and renovation works at the Ughelli Township Stadium are already on.

Delta State Comes Alive with Ughelli NLO Pre-Season Soccer Tournament.

The 16-team competition is open to all teams from NLO 1, 2, and 3, and registration fee is N20,000.

All 16 teams will be paired into four groups with four sides in each one and the each group winner will automatically advance to the semi-finals to vie for a place in the final proper.
