Sunday Dare’s Clinical Show On NTA Sports Programme

By Daily Sports on January 13, 2020

I don’t know if you watched the sports minister, Sunday Dare on the NTA Sports programme, anchored by ‘mathematical’ Segun Odegbami. The high profile TV sports programme has wide followership and I an apostle, recently watched Dare where he featured and answered depth and intriguing questions.

Since that programme, the social media has been agog with comments supposedly passing clean bill of health on Dare. I admire the minister, especially when it comes to advocacy, where he appears to be very good at.

On that TV programme, he was at his best. He sold beautifully his intended programme for Sports. I am not  Dare’s fan but that is not to say he is not working hard to see if he can make a difference especially having succeeded a non-performing Sports Minister.

He wants to come out as either a twinkling star or a shooting star, which is why each time he sees an opportunity to reach out to a larger audience, he goes out of his way to impress, even though most of those shenanigans are merely ‘make me shine shows.’ On that show, he was not found wanting selling listeners his dummy and my question has been, where will he start from and how would he go about it. I see Dare’s take on the said programme as mere sweet words that we have heard severally. Knowing politicians, it is the same thing we are used to, ‘the more you look, the less you see.’

To be honest with you, I have no patience for injustice and incompetence. I have zero tolerance for official gobbledygook and no sympathy for political chicanery.

If it is in other climes where things are done properly if the minister fails to accomplish all or most of what he voluntarily itemised, he would explain to the public why and as well ensure proper foundations are laid for the next person to carry on. But it is not so here.

I do not doubt him concerning his vision and mission; however, my fear is that it may end up in official draw cardboards.

Yes, Sunday Dare used to be a core journalist but for now, he is like any typical Nigerian politician, who we know talk on drop hat. When they tell you to stand, you better go because they are not to be trusted.

Don’t get me wrong; rather what I am saying is that they adopt lies as their middle name. It is my hope that Dare will work hard to restore Sports in all ramifications as he did vow in the popular Segun Odegbami’s TV programme.

He said the minds of many and hitting the nail on the head. Little wonder he received immense applause from sports journalists and other stakeholders. And so most of us are on our knees praying that the only wise God would give the Minister the strength and wisdom to find means to accomplish most of what he has publicly assured sportsmen, women and sundry. I thumb up his creativity and zeal to do the sports sector proud. His initiative for MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja and National Stadium Lagos are equally laudable and notable. It clearly showed that he knows the direction he is going and having known where the bucket is leaking he will design out the lasting solution to nip most in the bud.

God would give him all it takes to see most of what or tasks he lined up for himself done. One also prays that Dare would bring to bear, his acumen more professionally than a Nigerian politician, to carry out all these tasks.

He has put himself more on the spot, more than ever before by his pronouncements on the way forward for Nigerian sports in that NTA Sports programmes with ex- international, Segun Odegbami.  Many would hold him accountable. I believe he would go out of his way to make sense of this assignment he gave himself for the love of the fatherland and the youths.

He introduces the adoption formula which received tremendous patronage.  At least, the adopted athletes would receive good preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The Minister would still have been on the public’s good book, except for the wrong foot he stepped forward in his bid to wield into AFN imbroglio via bad advice by enemies of the athletics body.
