Nigerian representatives Enugu Rangers and Enyimba of Aba on Sunday kicked off their Caf Confederation Cup on a losing note.

While Rangers bowed 1-3 to visiting Pyramids of Egypt, Enyimba lost 0-2 to hosts Hassania Agadir in Morocco.

In Enugu, Ibrahim Olawoyin’s 29th-minute effort put the Nigerians ahead but a lethargic second half saw them concede thrice.

Rangers knew they were in for some trouble after Tope Olusesi was given his marching orders on the stroke of half-time for a second caution.

This the Egyptian outfit exploited to secure a comeback win. First, Mohamed Farouk put them in the game after converting a penalty in the 54th minute thanks to a handball situation.

The Flying Antelopes’ hopes of winning suffered a massive setback after Amor Layouni converted an assist from outstanding Islam Eissa in the 83rd minute.

The damage was completed four minutes later when Eissa converted Pyramids’ second penalty after Eric Traore was fouled by goalkeeper Nana Bonsu.

Despite the setback, the former Nigerian champions would be hoping to revive their campaign against Al Masry on December 8 at the Alexandria Stadium, Alexandria.

Meanwhile, in Morocco, first half strikes by Karim El Berkaoui and Malick Cisse were all they needed to silence the Nigerians at Stade Al Inbiaate, Agadir.

The People’s Elephant went into this clash on the back of their 2-0 over Adamawa United in the Nigeria Professional Football League, however, they were unable to match the north Africans’pace.

El Berkaoui put the hosts ahead after 14 minutes before Cisse sealed the victory five minutes later.

The second half did not produce any goal as Enyimba failed to muster any shot on target in the ill-fated encounter.

Usman Abd'Allah’s men would hope to bounce back when they host Cote d’Ivoire’s FC San Pedro on December 8 in Aba.
