Nasarawa United Triumph, An Open Vista For Greater Achievements — Wambai

By Obaseki Anthony on October 18, 2019

Yahaya Musa Wambai, Team Manager, Nasarawa United Football Club, has attributed the team's victory over El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri during the final of the Ahlan Preseason Cup Tournament in Kano to unity, team work, discipline, persistence, focus and faith in God.

"There can't be a trophy without hard work, togetherness, support, persistence and focus.

To cap it all, God is at the centre of every success story," he stated.

According to him, the ceaseless support the team has been getting from the Governor Abduallahi Sule-led administration and the citizens of the state is responsible for the steady rise in performance and achievements.

Continuing, Wambai said: “We sincerely appreciate the Governor, our father, for his endless support to the team.

“Nothing encourages someone like knowing you have the backing of your father and your family.

“This victory could not have been possible if the Governor hadn't approved our coming.

“When every other person thought Nasarawa United was not going to feature at the Ahlan preseason tournament, the Governor, in his magnanimity, shocked the world by approving and releasing needed funds for the trip, and today, we have won our first ever trophy outside Nasarawa State as a Club.”

The Team Manager added that the victorious emergence of Nasarawa United at the preseason tournament is a warning signal to clubs ahead of the commencement of the new football league season.

“Our victory has sent warning signals to clubs who will be participating in the 2019/2020 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) season that Nasarawa United is the team to beat any day.

“Most opponents will be feeling jittery over our performance henceforth.

“This tournament has helped both the technical crew and players on the direction to follow.

And it has also helped to build synergy among the players, coaches and management of the club for optimum performance, and for the sake of clarity, we are building on this foundation of success,” he added.

Wambai re-assured that Nasarawa United is ready to participate in the new league season and make continental statement.

Abubakar Lawal’s 20th minute spot kick against El-Kanemi Warriors was all Nasarawa United needed to emerge champions of the 2019 Ahlan Preseason Cup Tournament at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, a tournament organised by the Chairman of Kano State Football Association and Executive Committee Member of the Nigerian Football Federation, Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa.

Sixteen teams, mostly NPFL clubs, participated in the ten-day competition, which also saw Nasarawa United scooping all the individual awards, namely, Best Coach of the tournament, as well as Most Valuable Player and Highest Goalscorer awards.
