More than 1,200 Ijaw, Itsekiri youths empowered by the Mulade Sheriff Peace & Unity Cup tournaments

The organiser of the 2019 edition of the Ijaw/Itsekiri Peace and Unity Cup, also known as Comrade  Mulade Sheriff Peace and Unity Cup, says it has empowered and engaged over 1,200 youths across Ijaw and Itsekiri communities since inception of the competition from 2017 till date.

He explained that the tournament was part of its effort to foster peace and unity especially among the people of Warri South-West, adding that it has also helped to make participants to be more congruous in doing things and also explored new frontiers of life with new friends.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the second edition of the football competition at Warri, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, expressed joy over the successes the competition has brought in among Ijaw and Itsekiri communities of Warri South-West.

He noted that the “tournament was initiated to promote peaceful coexistence and build bridges of unity among the diverse ethnic nationalities, as well as discover football talents at the grassroots level in Warri Area and other parts of Delta State.”

Comrade Mulade, a peace/human rights advocate and environmentalist who is also the National Coordinator, Centre For Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), revealed that the biennial football tournament will hold from November 16 to November 30, 2019 at two centres; Ugborodo and Benikrukru.

The LOC comprises Kenneth waomucha as chairman; Barr Val Ada Arenyeka as Deputy Chairman, and Chief Jeffrey Ojogun as Secretary.

Comrade Mulade charged the members of the various committees to put in their best to ensure a successful tournament, noting that the purpose of inaugurating the LOC was for them to coordinate and assist to make it a huge success.
