U-20 Women World Cup Hosting: Nigeria on the March Again?

Let me ask for permission for the use of this famous slogan, ‘Nigeria on the March Again,’ coined by the Presidential Campaign Council of the Social Democracy Party of the late President, MKO Abiola, GCFR, in 1993. It was one glamorous campaign activity I followed religiously. That slogan has remained words on the marble till today. However, this write-up is going to busy itself x-raying weightier matters rather than dwell on this passing comment.

Truth is that Nigeria is in grave danger, especially if the Buhari-led government pretends to be deaf, blind and dumb and further take the happenings in the land for granted. Cosmetic approach as demonstrated by Buhari and his cohorts so far remain a time bomb waiting to explode. The signs are here and you don’t need anybody to tell you the level of anger in the land.

I don’t know if you watched one Princess Ajibola and her sponsored group displaying ignorance by mandating Amnesty International to leave Nigeria. I touched shame as I was nearly gummed on my seat.

I kept asking to no one in particular who sent this woman to display her ignorance which made Nigeria a laughing stock before the civilised world on the illegal call. I further asked who sent her and her group to put Nigeria on the spot before the world. Where did the international organisation go wrong in the eyes of Ajibola and her sponsors? The sin of the international organisation is its refusal to become the rubber stamp for this lying and inhuman Buhari regime. The entire international community is keenly watching how far Ajibola and her sponsors would go.

The English Premiership has started with its attendant followership. The heat is on and Nigerians fans are outwitting themselves as usual. The game has long taken hold in the country. The country’s representatives in African Championships flopped. From Champions Enyimba International to Niger Tornadoes away loss, Tornadoes lost at home as Kano Pillars narrowly edged Ashanti Kokoto 3-2 in Kano. That is the shaky start of our teams, but we pray they pick up decisively as the Champs progress.

The unabated killings by Fulani herders and other terrors in the land were ongoing all over the country, yet FIFA inspectors were visiting some designated States like Asaba, Uyo, and Lagos, etc to critically see for themselves the readiness of the stadia preparatory for Nigeria’s bid to host the next U-20 Women World Cup summit.

I will not join issues with the voices for and against and the accusing fingers pointing at some individuals, trending on the social media. As expected, the Buhari government that is earnestly looking for legitimacy from FIFA pronto gave the government’s nod to the delegates when they paid VP Osibanjo a visit, to narrate their findings and there seems to be a glimmer of hope that the championship would be hosted if other things pointed out by FIFA are provided when next the team calls.

I have not hidden or pretended about this government’s lack of direction as regards things that benefit the larger and daily suffering population whose lives diminish daily in the land of plenty. Buhari and his cohorts have obviously become a big threat to the citizenry.

This page says that this knack or clamour to host the girls in the World remains not only ill-timed but also ill-advised. Where are the resources if I may ask, because hosting, whether FIFA or any international tournament is no joke? It requires a buoyant economy, a sound network of roads and above all, excellent security free country. Nigeria, as it is today, is not safe to host even national sports festival with all ease. FIFA would be taken the full but unnecessary and avoidable risk to stage the next U- 20 Women Championship in the West African country.

How can FIFA stage its competition in a war raging country thereby placing the children at risk? FIFA must turn its back on Nigeria as security situation in the country is in public domain and global searchlight. Nigeria has no capacity now to host the World in any competition of any colour. Those pushing for this are swindlers of the first order. I saw some of the people that stripped naked our football, speaking in the public for the country on the benefits if the country plays host to U- 20 World Women Cup. They are all pretenders. I won’t name names but they were there dinning with VP, Osinbajo.

Both Buhari’s regime and those parading as experts in football matters in Nigeria are the worst enemies of the long-suffering citizens of this country. My questions are, is hosting the FIFA champ the most important thing for this country now. With this weakest economy with a heavy debt burden, what would the hosting bring to the table of Nigerians that are overstretched and heavily over-burdened?

Will this hosting bring food to the table of Nigerians whose citizens commit suicide every day due to the current unbearable high cost of living that has reduced the citizen to mere walking corpses? What is happening in Nigeria can easily and safely pass as a nation whose government has been thoroughly overwhelmed by evil forces and the fragile and heavily confused government collapsed.

The best would be for this regime that is looking for credibility, to drop this nasty idea of hosting FIFA tournament, now that all indices in the country point to instability and possible disintegration.

While we keenly watch, though with great dismay, Let us return to our social media networks to continue this nought and self-serving gamble by the same old and new criminals who have never done anything but to dry up Nigeria. We must all rise up to resist the gimmicks of this gang. They are at it again, selling this dummy to a government whose head is a no head that surrounds its self with propagandists. The act of governance has totally eluded and overwhelmed it and presently it has no solution to all the atrocities that befall the nation. The government is utterly bereft of fresh ideas to tackle headlong the mounting problems confronting the land and the most important task for it is to host the world in football? This is typical of the unserious minded gathering of self-centred men and women led by Buhari. Haba!
