Plateau United Sack 17 Players, Seal Kit Agreement Ahead of New Season

In a bid to reposition the club for better performance next season, the management of Plateau United Football Club of Jos has released 17 players from the team.

A statement signed by the Media Officer of the Club, Albert Dakup, said the decision was taken at the end of a meeting between management and the technical crew shortly before the team embarked on recess.

Dakup in the statement issued on Friday explained that most of the 17 players were deemed surplus to requirement due to indiscipline and decline in productivity.

According to him, all the seventeen players have been communicated and told to surrender club properties in their possession as all their entitlements have been paid to them.

The club has already entered into negotiations with some fresh legs who have been penciled down to replace the departing players.

Among the 17 players who were released are those who joined the team on loan last season and their performance fell beyond the club expectations.

In another development, Plateau United has entered into a partnership with Ejig Sports and Millennium Holiday Group to kit the team and other partnership ahead of the incoming season.

Details of the agreement which will be officially signed in Turkey soon will also see the club market its players to Turkish clubs.

General Manager of the Club, Pius Henwan, who expressed delight with the partnership, said it will reposition the team as one of the household names in the Nigerian league.

Henwan explained that the partnership which will also include see the club owning a club shop to see quality replica jerseys will go a long way in boosting the revenue base of the team and reduce over dependence on the Plateau State Government, the sole financiers of the club.

Country representative of Ejig Consultancy and Holiday Group, Wole Oyewo, disclosed that his group is happy to enter into the partnership with Plateau United, which he described as one the well-funded clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Oyewo pointed out that the partnership will aside from kitting the club, it will help assist the club in preparing for the new season by taking the teams to overseas training tour and exposed the management to business to business side of football which is what most teams in Europe do make them self-reliant.

It would be recalled that Plateau United had recently entered into a partnership with a Lagos-based pharmaceutical company to supply drugs to the team.
