Delta Force Crash in Nasarawa

By Anthony Obaseki, Lafia on April 4, 2019

Delta Force Football Club of Asaba on Wednesday crashed to their first defeat in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after crumbling to a 4 – 1 drubbing in the hands of Nasarawa United in a rescheduled match at the Lafia City Stadium.

The Delta Ambassadors had gone behind in the 23rd minute after stand-in Captain Zaka Bala was adjudged to have brought down a Nasarawa United player in the vital area with Sunusi Ibrahim converting the resultant penalty kick. Anas Yusuf increased the tally in the 35th minute after pushing down a Delta Force defender before driving in a low shot with the centre referee looking the other way.

The hosts took the game beyond the visitors in the 42nd minute after Thomas Adeshina sliced in a shot after connecting a cross but Philip Ozor reduced the tally in 78th minute after his cross inside the vital area was fumbled into the net by the Nasarawa United goalkeeper.

Substitute Shammasu Mohammed finished off the routing of the visitors in the third minute of added time after rounding off the goalkeeper to slot home, despite Sylvester Bell claiming the player had used his hands to gain an advantage over him before scoring.

Speaking after the match the Technical Adviser of Delta Force, Emmanuel Deutsch, attributed the loss to fatigue and intense heat but assured that the team will be better prepared for their next match against Yobe Desert Stars on Sunday in Damaturu.

The Media Officer of the Club, Mr. Jude Agbeyeke, said that the Delta Ambassadors will be looking to redeem their image against Yobe Desert Stars, stressing that the team was still developing and will soon get better.
