Super Falcons Coach Reveals World Cup Aspirations

By Daily Sports on March 20, 2019

Nigeria national women’s team coach Thomas Dennerby says his aim is to ensure that the Super Falcons do more than merely make up the numbers at the 2019 World Cup in France.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group A for the global tournament in June, where they will come up against Norway, South Korea and hosts France.

The Super Falcons will be appearing at their ninth World Cup and looking to advance beyond the group stage for just the second time.

Coach Dennerby has played down expectations for his team, urging the Nigerian public not to expect too much from his charges despite their triumph at the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.

“What we are doing now is to follow [our] programmes judiciously and we are working hard to ensure we achieve 100 percent of what we map out to do before the World Cup,” Dennerby is quoted by Nigeria’s Football Live.

“I am going to invite new players to camp and hopefully select the best players to represent the nation.”

Dennerby added that, “only active players will make my team and their medical and physical fitness will be the two major factors of picking any player”.

He continued, “My mission in France is to compete and not to participate, so doing well will be my target.” (African Football)
