Jose Mourinho has aimed another dig at Manchester United’s home fans following his side’s win over Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.

Spurs started the stronger side at Wembley and went in front after just 11 minutes as Dele Alli got on the end of Christian Eriksen’s cross.

But United were level by the break as Alexis Sanchez headed Paul Pogba’s cross past Michel Vorm.

Ander Herrera then secured United’s place in next month’s final with his strike in the second half.

Mourinho, meanwhile, has criticised United’s supporters on several occasions this season, with his gripes ranging from the lack of atmosphere at Old Trafford to the harsh reaction from fans to decisions made by Scott McTominay during matches.

And after the win over Tottenham, Mourinho used it as another opportunity to send a message to United fans by claiming that his side will not show any improvement unless the atmosphere at Old Trafford is ‘better’.

“I think you don’t get strong with happiness in negative moments, with ‘let it go because we just lost football match’,” Mourinho told MUTV.

“I think you grow up with criticism and pressure an intense work mentally and physical and I think we are growing up and two very good performances this week using almost every player of the squad.

“Everyone is really happy to go back to Manchester with a place in the final.

‘That’s the only way to play for big clubs [with a strong mentality], to play in big clubs you have to have incredible talent, or good talent with incredible mentality, if you don’t have quality you cannot play for a big club, if you don’t have mentality you cannot do it.

“So I think we are trying to find this balance of a group with quality but with that mental toughness.

“I think we need a bit more from Old Trafford and looking to the next season, it’s not possible to do it without a better Old Trafford.”
