CHAN Eagles: Enyimba unshaken by players’ absence

Enyimba chairman Felix Anyansi-Agwu insists the club can cope with the absence of five of their key players who are away on international duty ahead of the start of the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

Newly signed goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa and the quartet of Ibrahim Mustapha, Ikouewen Udoh, Austine Oladapo and Theophilus Afelokhai are part of Nigeria’s 23-man squad to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled to kick off in Morocco this weekend.

The new NPFL season will commence on Sunday and the Peoples Elephant will be without the players in the opening weeks.

The experienced football administrator is however adamant they have enough depth to deal with the situation.

“We are going to move on, in as much as we’ll miss them. We are also going to demonstrate that we have capacity. It’s an opportunity for others to prove themselves,” Anyansi said in a statement released by the club’s media department on Thursday..

“We are hoping for them to do well, both for themselves and for the team. It is a huge statement, that we have five players (in the national team).”

The People’s Elephant will kick off the league campaign on Sunday, January 14, with a trip to Lobi Stars. (Completesportsnigeria)
