Governor Ifeanyi Okowa remains resolute in giving young Deltans a platform to excel in whatever worthy endeavour they believe in to earn a living and then build their careers on which they hope to engage in that would continue to expose their naturally gifted abundant talents in them for the state and country to the international level.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Barrister Chiedu Ebie, stated this in Asaba while briefing members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Delta State Chapter, ahead of the kick-off of the second edition of the Zenith Bank Delta Principals Cup.

Barrister Ebie said that the Okowa administration is keen on redirecting the focus of young Deltans to meaningful ventures stressing that the revival of the Principals Cup is one of the programmes outlined by the Governor towards enhancing the grassroots sports developmental drive of the state.

He revealed that to this end the state government was already in the process of organizing a Delta Schools Games aimed at discovering new talents while calling on the private sector to partner with the state government to achieve the laudable programs outlined by the Okowa administration.

He commended Zenith Bank for partnering with the State Government and urged the private sector to also partner with the State Government towards giving young Deltans a brighter future.

The Deputy Managing Director of the Zenith Bank, Mr Ebenezer Onyeagwu, represented by Mr Lucky Ighade the Deputy General Manager Asaba, assured of the bank’s determination to continue its partnership with the state, saying the Principals Cup is a veritable tool for engaging the youth in meaningful ventures thereby taking them off the streets at an early age.

Mr Ighade said the bank was to partner with the state in other sports related activities as sports was a money spinner which would impact on the society positively if properly harnessed stressing that the Zenith Bank Delta Principals Cup is a flagship programme aimed at giving back to the society as well as giving the youth a better future.

The Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa, represented by the Director General, Mr Victor Onogagamue, assured that the Commission will continue to give technical assistance to the program while revealing that all the state owned stadia were at the disposal of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for the duration of the Principals Cup.

He however called on the private sector to avail them of the immense potential in the state by partnering with it towards taking the sports sector to a higher pedestal.

The Project Consultant of the Zenith Bank Delta Principals Cup and head of Hideaplus, Mr Tony Pemu said this year’s edition which is the second will see innovations especially with the introduction of branded jerseys, football kits and other packages aimed at giving the young footballers a lifetime experience.

Mr Pemu said the Local Organizing Committee which was recently inaugurated by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Barrister Ebie had been tasked to tighten its verification procedure while urging the over one thousand five hundred schools participating in this year’s program to be at their best behaviour.

The second edition of the Zenith Bank Delta Principals Cup is expected to kick off on November one at the Saint Patricks football pitch Asaba while the closing ceremony takes place at the Delta State Polytechnic Stadium Ozoro in February 2018.
