Eaglets to pocket $5,600 if they beat Ghana

Apart from their bonuses, the Golden Eaglets have been offered additional financial incentives to beat West African rivals Ghana in the final of the WAFU-UFOA Zone B qualifiers for the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation, Technical Committee Chairman, Ahmed Fresh Yusuf, has promised to reward the Golden Eaglets with N2 million (approximately US$5,600) if they qualify for the 2019 U-17 AFCON by beating Ghana on Saturday.

Yusuf kept to his word of giving the Nigeria U-17s a cash reward of N1 million (US$2,800) for their win against Republic of Niger in Wednesday evening’s semifinal clash, which they triumphed 2-1.

Akinwumi Amoo set Manu Garba’s wards on their way with a fine finish from a pull out in the 45th minute, and Olakunle Oluwasegun, who had scored a brace in the 2-3 defeat to Burkina Faso in their opening match and another in the 5-1 mauling of Cote d’Ivoire last week, made the scoreline comfortable with another magnificent strike two minutes before the hour.

While Nigeria are the most successful team in FIFA U-17 World Cup history with five trophies won, their opponents Ghana have been crowned champions on two occasions, with their last title coming in 1995.

Both Ghana and Nigeria have won the U-17 AFCON twice along with Mali and Gambia.

Saturday’s final between the Golden Eaglets and Black Starlets will hold at Stade General Seyni Kountché, Niamey, starting from 19:30 hours. (Daily Trust)
