Plateau United falls 4-2 to Etoile Sahel * Boboye says loss can be overturned

Plateau United’s CAF Champions League hopes are on a shaky note after they were handed a 4-2 defeat by Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in Sousse on Tuesday.

The first round return leg match would be played in Jos with the overall winners advancing to the group stage of the competition.

The North Africans were simply a different class from the NPFL champions, who though pulled two goals back late on to give them a fighting chance in the second leg.

However, coach Kennedy Boboye of Plateau United believes that the defeat can be overturned and the club qualify for the money-spinning group stage of the tourney.

The Jos club would need at least to win by at least two unreplied goals to qualify for the next stage of the tournament and Boboye maintained it is achievable.

“If the boys could keep their cool we can scale through,” Boboye said in an interview.

“Let’s see how it goes in the return leg.

“But all the same, I give credit to the boys for standing up to the many antics the Tunisia side brought before the match.”

He said his team gave too much respect to Etoile in the first half and they paid dearly for that by letting in three goals before the interval.

“My boys showed too much respect to the opponents. They did not play to their strength in the first 20 minutes, but after a pet talk in the dressing room they came out, played to instructions and we got two vital away goals in the match,” he explained.
