Devon Alexander will be fighting former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz next Saturday night on February 17 in a 12 round fight at the Don Haskins Convention Center in El Paso, Texas.

This is an important fight for both Alexander and Ortiz, as they’ve trying to resurrect their careers after a number of setbacks. The winner of the Ortiz-Alexander fight can move forward to bigger and better things. The loser will need to consider their options.

Alexander recently made a comeback last November in winning a 10 round unanimous decision against Walter Castillo. The 31-year-old Alexander looked good for a fighter that hadn’t fought in 2 years. Before that win, Alexander had lost 3 out of his last 4 fights to Amir Khan, Aaron Martine and Shawn Porter.

Like Alexander, Ortiz, 31 as well, but he’s a big question mark in terms of whether he’ll be able to be successful with his own comeback.

Ortiz has tried to turn things about since losing 3 fights in a row to Floyd Mayweather Jr., Josesito Lopez and Luis Collazo, but he’s not made a lot of progress. Ortiz was knocked out in the 4th round by Andre Berto in April 2016.

That was the only fight for Ortiz in 2016. Last year, Ortiz fought just once in defeating journeyman Saul Corral by a 4th round knockout. Ortiz looked good in that fight, but he didn’t fight again for the remainder of the year.

”As you know, the welterweight division is action-packed and I’m anxious to show I’m one of the best,” Alexander said. ”You’ve got Keith Thurman, you’ve got Danny Garcia, and you’ve got tons of other welterweights out there that can be made. I don’t care who I fight, and I’ve been like that my whole career. It doesn’t matter. I’m going to get past Ortiz and go back to the drawing board and see who we got next,” Alexander said.
