D’Tigress Coach, Captain Target FIBA Women’s World Cup Medal

By Daily Sports on February 7, 2018

Nigerian women’s basketball team D’Tigress coach Sam Vincent says he feels happy to be drawn against Argentina, Turkey and Australia ahead of the 2018 FIBA Women’s World Cup billed to hold in Spain later in the year.

Speaking shortly after the draw, the American who led D’Tigers to the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan said he is looking forward to the tournament.

“Yes, I am very excited about the draw.  We are marching toward a medal and it will be very exciting,” Vincent told Completesportsnigeria.

Also reacting to the draw was the team’s captain Aisha Mohammed who strongly believes that with good preparation Nigeria will qualify from the group.

“World Cup, yeah I saw the draw, tough group but I believe if we prepare early, work hard, focus and play together as a team just like we did in Mali, l am sure we can definitely make it to the next round because my girls and l don’t give up. We have this fighting spirit in us that never stop fighting until the last buzzer. But we have to take one game at a time,” the America-based star said.

The Nigerian girls won the 2017 FIBA AfroBasket held in Mali last year to qualify for the World Cup in Spain.

The group phase of the tournament will be held in Tenerife Sports Pavilion Santiago Martin in San Cristóbal de La Laguna and the Palacio Municipal de Deportes “Quico Cabrera” in Santa Cruz.

The Final Phase will take center stage in the Tenerife Sports Pavilion Santiago Martin.
