CHAN 2018: Ikhana hopeful on Home Eagles

By Daily Sports on January 17, 2018

Former national U-23 Eagles coach Kadiri Ikhana has called on coach Salisu Yusuf to work on the strikers ahead of their second game, this is coming after

Home Eagles’ goalless draw with Rwanda in their first game of the 2018 CAF African Nations Championship, CHAN in Morocco on Monday.

The Eagles could not convert any of their scoring opportunities to goal against Rwanda, with the attempts hitting the woodwork several times.

And Ikhana, who has at various times handled several teams in the Nigeria Professional Football League, said the performance of the players was encouraging.

“I will not say they performed poorly because they did not score, they worked hard and they made several efforts to win the game but they were not lucky,” Ikhana told Completessportsnigeria.

“In football, you also need luck but from what I have seen in that team, the coaches just need to work more on the strikers but with the way they played, they did well and I am sure they will improve from that game.”

Speaking on his expectation from the team, Ikhana said: “You can’t really judge them with the first game, they still have more game to play and I am sure they will improve and qualify from their group.”

The Home Eagles will face Libya on Friday in their second game of the tournament. Libya thrashed Equatorial Guinea 3-0 in their first game on Monday.
