Mbaoma attributes Akwa United choice to team’s philosophy

By Daily Sports on January 8, 2018

Akwa United new signing Victor Mbaoma has attributed the rational behind hid decision for opting for the club was due to the team's philosophy and style of play.

The forward, who joined Akwa United from Remo Stars on a season-long loan deal, scored 10 times for the Sagamu side in the last campaign, and has widely been tipped to bring additional attacking edge to Abdu Maikaba's team as they prepare for the start of the new campaign in a week.

Mbaoma in an exclusive chat with npfl.ng after he was unveiled by The Promise Keepers, explained the motivation behind his move to the club, his target for the campaign and how he intends to settle in for business.

"It feels great (joining Akwa United). I feel this is the best chance for me to express the quality in me. It is a dream move and it came at the right time. I will use this opportunity to get to the next height of my career.

"I was asked the same thing last year (at Remo Stars), I will say the same thing I said then. I love to keep it to myself, till when the season starts. The joy of every player is to win trophies. I am here to see how I can help the team win the (Nigeria Professional Football) League, and compete in the CAF Confederation Cup and Aiteo Cup.

The striker was reportedly linked with a move to CAF Champions League campaigners, MFM FC, before agreeing a switch to The Promise Keepers.

He is expected to face strong competition from the quartet of Christian Pyagbara, Musa Newman, Gabriel Okechukwu (currently with the CHAN-bound Super Eagles) and Ajibola Otegbeye, who recently joined from Sunshine Stars.

Mbaoma, who scored twice in the 2-2 draw against Akwa United in Sagamu in the second round of last season, was unveiled alongside Ajibola and 14 others.
