Ortiz stops Martz in round 2 eyes Wilder

By Daily Sports on December 9, 2017

After a year out of the ring, heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz (28-0, 24 KOs) looked good in obliterating journeyman Daniel Martz (16-6-1, 13 KOs) by a 2nd round knockout on Friday night at the Hialeah Park Racing & Casino, Hialeah, Florida.

#3 WBC Ortiz, 38, knocked Martz out with a big left to the head for the knockdown in round 2. Martz went down face first on the canvas and he was too badly hurt for him to get back up and continue fighting.

After the fight, Ortiz had words with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Ortiz leaned over the top rope and let Wilder know he wants to fight him next. Wilder then climbed into the ring and let Ortiz know that he wants to fight him next.

Wilder looked pretty keyed up like he wanted to tear into Ortiz right then and there. Ortiz was calm and friendly. Obviously he didn’t want to upset Wilder, because he American doesn’t have to fight him. Wilder would be doing Ortiz a big favor by giving him a title shot in a voluntary defense in early 2018.

”I guarantee you, you’ll have the fight,” said Wilder to Ortiz. “No excuses. Make sure you train hard. I’m going to whip your [expletive].”
