Omeruo suffers injury, puts chances against Cameroon in doubt

By Daily Sports on July 31, 2017

Kenneth Omeruo picked up a yet to be disclosed injury in Chelsea's 2-0 win over French fourth-tier club Bergerac Périgord FC in a pre-season friendly at the Gaston Simounet Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Nigeria international played through the pain barrier before he was substituted at half-time, according to Canal+ English football television pundit Sébastien Chapuis.

''In possession, Omeruo – who had a quiet game overall in the centre (and went down injured during the first half only to be subbed at the interval) – essentially played the ball across the back three to let Colley and Ampadu play the ball forwards,'' Chapuis stated in his match report on thechels.net.''

Cole Dasilva came on for the (likely) injured Omeruo.

''Omeruo's fitness will be a major concern for Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, with the German set to announce his roster for two crucial World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon as from next week.

The central defender has been maintaining his fitness by training with Chelsea loanees and U23 squad, before a decision is made on his future by The Blues hierarchy.
