Nigeria Football Supporters Club mourns ‘Wonderboy’ Hamilton •Okumagba says it was a great loss

By Victor Enyinnaya on April 2, 2017

National Chairman of Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), Prince Vincent Okumagba, has described the death of ex-international and former national team coach, Paul ‘Wonderboy’ Hamilton, as a rude shock that calls for national grief.

Okumagba in an emotion-laden voice, said the death of Hamilton came at a time when he should be around with his colleagues to continue to be the pride of the nation and the beautiful game having served the country meritoriously as player and coach.

“I must say that we at the Nigeria Football Supporters Club received the sad news with unbelieving until it spread like wild fire. Nigeria has again lost one of her patriots in the game,” he said.

He therefore consoled the bereaved family and urged them to take solace in the fact that their former benefactor played his part very well in the service of his fatherland. We are proud of him even in death.

“We pray that his soul find rest in the Lord. Hamilton was exemplary and committed to his assignments,” he remarked.

He further declared that “the Nigeria Football Supporters Club would no doubt, miss his warmth disposition and his other mannerism he displays for the good of the game. His immense contributions to the round leather game were enormous. He remains one of those that grew it as a player and then as a gaffer.”

According to him, the former national team coach demonstrated his deep and genuine sense of responsibility and love for the game and never hides such.

“Nigeria football family has again lost someone that would be hard to replace. No need to emphasise that we missed him in NFSC. He helped in the evolution of Women Football in the country and so Nigeria owes him memorable remembrance. He was our hero.”

The NFSC boss also extended the Club’s condoles to the President of NFF and CAF executive committee member, Pinnick Amaju and his executive Committee members on the death of Paul Hamilton. He charged them to brace and prayed that God would grant them the courage to bear the loss.
