Akinwunmi canvasses corporate support for National League

 NFF 1st Vice President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi has urged corporate institutions to give backing to the Nigeria National League in order for the new Board to be able to fully implement its laudable programs for taking the second tier of Nigerian domestic football to new heights of excellence.

The experienced administrator and legal luminary, who was Chairman of the ad-hoc committee on governing structure for the NNL, made this charge before formally handing over to the new Independent Chairman, Hon. Chidi Ofo Okenwa at the Congress of the body which took place in Abuja on Thursday.

Also at the Congress were NFF 2nd Vice President/LMC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Charles Ndukwe, Women League chairman Aisha Falode and Chairman of the Nation-Wide League One, Alh. Mohammed Alkali.

Okenwa, alongside the NNL Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Bukola Olopade, expressed their excitement and great hope for the NNL, and disclosed that the new board will work assiduously hard to re-position the second tier and in the process attract necessary corporate support.

The new NNL Board is composed of Hon. Chidi Ofo Okenwa (Independent Chairman), Sunday Longbap (Independent Director), Oladimeji Ladi Thompson (Director), Dodo Isah (Director), Farouk Yarma (Director), Tunji Onatolu (Director), Ifeanyi Onyibe (Director), Amos Nworie (Director) and Hon. Olopade (CEO). The Chief Operating Officer is Lawrence Katken. A new Independent Vice Chairman will be appointed soon, following the death last month of Alh. Magaji Abdulkadir Kapaka.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE ANNUAL CLUB CONGRESS OF THE NIGERIA NATIONAL LEAGUE (NNL) HELD ON THURSDAY 23RD FEBRUARY, 2017 AT NBC CENTENARY HOUSE, WUSE, ABUJA.

1. The Congress expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Nigeria Football Federation for the enabling environment granted to the NNL to operate.

2. The Congress commended the Nigeria Football Federation for the body’s efforts and reforms aimed at transforming the various football Leagues in the country to make them more viable.

3. The Congress thanked the Nigeria Football Federation for the NNL governing structure, rules, regulations and framework that the Congress unanimously adopted and which assume immediate effect in compliance with article 35 of the NFF Statutes.

4. The Congress adopted the new Club Management/Board Structure of Nigeria National League as reflected thus:
*President
*Vice President
*Director of Finance
*Director of Marketing
*Team Manager
*Secretary/Director Administration.

5. The Congress adopted a 4-year tenure for the Management Board of all Clubs in the Nigeria National League.

6. All forms of direct interference in the Management and Administration of NNL Clubs by Government Officials/Agencies are hereby prohibited. Henceforth, Government Officials/Agencies responsible for sports will only have supervisory role (s).

7. The Congress expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Mallam Shehu Dikko–led League Management Company (LMC) for its support to the NNL as well as the top tier League company’s commitment to the transformation and sustainability of the successes recorded at the level of Nigeria Professional Football League.

8. Congress affirmed their loyalty to the new Board of the Nigeria National League headed by Hon. Chidi Ofo Okenwa as well as the new governing structure.

9. Congress adopted the immediate and full implementation of the Domestic Transfer Matching System (DTMS) and NTC by mid-season to allow all Clubs to be abreast with the system.

10. Congress adopted the date of 17th March, 2017 as the kick-off date for the 2016/2017 Nigeria National League season.
