I’m pleased to be off the mark, says Watford’s Obi

By Daily Sports on September 29, 2016

Ogo Obi is relieved to score his first goal of the season in Watford U23’s 4-2 defeat to Hull City U23 in the Professional Development League on Monday.

The young striker came off the bench to score his side’s second of the night at the KCOM Stadium, and was pleased to open his tally for 2016/17 season.

“I’m pleased to be off the mark. It’s always good to get the first and hopefully it’ll be the start of many more,” Obi told Watford website.

“I played a one-two on the edge of the box before picking it up and running through on goal one-on-one. The defender closed me down but I hit it on my left and it went in, so I was happy.

“I’ve got a couple of individual targets so we’ll see how the rest of the season goes and hopefully I can achieve them.

“When we got back into the game we had the momentum and were looking like we were going to score another goal.

“At 2-2 we were pushing for a third goal and looking to get the three points, but they did us on the counter-attack a couple of times and it’s tough to take, because I think we deserved at least one point.”

And despite the Hornets’ defeat, Obi is optimistic his side will bounce back against Sheffield United on Friday.

“I’m very confident that we’re going to get back to winning ways,” he continued.

“In both losses we’ve looked bright, but unfortunately that hasn’t been quite enough for us. Once we cut out the mistakes and start working more as a unit we’ll get a lot more from these games.

“We’ve got a lot of good characters in our squad. A lot of players have come through from the youth team which won the league last season.

“We just need to believe a bit more and push and encourage each other more, because we’ve got a good side.” (goal.com)
