Barcelona renew efforts to sign Arsenal's Bellerin

By Daily Sports on September 20, 2016

Barcelona are set to renew their efforts to re-sign Arsenal's Hector Bellerin, although Darijo Srna has also been lined up as a short-term alternative for their problematic right-back position.

Dani Alves' Camp Nou exit after years of sterling service has left a hole in the Barcelona starting line-up, while Aleix Vidal is still yet to convince Luis Enrique he can fill the role.

The ex-Sevilla man has failed to shine since completing a move to Catalunya in January 2016, and despite several failed approaches Bellerin is still the man the coach sees as the long-term replacement for Alves.

Bellerin moved to the Emirates Stadium at the tender age of 16 from La Masia and has turned down the opportunity to return to Camp Nou on more than one occasion – the latest being in the latest transfer window.

The youngster is comfortable and happy at Arsenal, and while his signature is still highly coveted at Barca they will look to Srna as a more immediate solution.

At 34 years old and in his 13th season with Shakhtar Donetsk, the Croatian fits the profile of a good, cheap option out wide, and his club would not stand in the way of a move.

"The rumours I have read in the news are not false," Srna's agent Damir Simace admitted recently to Sportske Novosti.

Vidal, meanwhile, would most likely leave Camp Nou should Srna arrive in January, and he has offers from Serie A on the table. (goal.com)
