Elumelu hints at NPFL club ownership

By Daily Sports Nigeria on April 9, 2024

Billionaire banker and philanthropist, Tony Elumelu, says he is evaluating viability of owning a Nigerian Premier Football League club as part of his  Coporate Social Responsibility, The PUNCH reports.

Elumelu made this known on Monday via his X handle after reacting to a post from another user Adebayo Mustapha, who suggested that the President and Ministry of Sports should woo top companies in the country to own clubs in the NPFL.

Mustapha believes it will improve the NPFL.

Mustapha whose X handle is @LawyerDayo, wrote, “Can we get the President and Ministry of Sport to weigh in on the big corporations in Nigeria to buy at least one league club as part of CSR? Imagine Dangote buys Kano Pillars, BUA buys Kwara United, Elumelu acquires Rivers United and Geregu takes over 3SC. Imagine the competition.”

In response to Mustapha’s tweet, Elumelu wrote, “This is a nice idea. The Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh @OwanEnoh, is already thinking along this line and has approached me and we are already evaluating viability,” Elumelu wrote.
