Mgbede FC lift OJC football trophy

Mgbede Football Club of Egbema have emerged the champinns of the maiden OJC Foundation Footbal competiton.

The competiton which was part of activities outlined for the 60h birthday celebration of the General Overseer of Koinonia International Ministry (KIM) and Founder of OJC Foundation, Rev Joseph Chukwuekele Omaegbu (a.k.a OJC), saw the finalists, Mgbede FC and Okwuzi FC play out a 90-minute barren thriller.

However, Mgbede FC edged out their rival to the second place by beating them 5-4 on penalties. Despite the rain, a capacity crowd turned up to wtach the match that brought to a close, the tournament which featured four clubs from Egbema villages. Aggah FC and Mmahu placed third and fourth respectively. All four teams were rewarded with cash prizees, apart from the football trophy.

Omaegbu, while presenting the trophy to the champions, Mgbede FC, commended  all the teams that participated for their high level of discipline and excellent spirit of sportsmanship.

He noted that all the teams were of equal strength since all the matches, right from the elimination stage, were decided on penalties.

While pledging to underwrite hospital bills of players who may have sustained serious injuries during the competition,  the Man of God promised to upgrade the Aggah football field which waterlogged pitch impeded free flow of the entertaining game, to a standard playing field.

He also promised to make the competition an annual event, adding that next edition would be expanded to include many more teams. He praised the organisers and match officials for a job well done and expressed joy that the competition was violence-free.

"It gives me joy that this competition has achieved the purpose for which I instituted it. I see it as a platform for bringing the youths together so that we can think about the unity and development of Egbema, so that  Egbema will come alive again," OJC said.

Meanwhile, three of the 12  players  who participated in the table tennis championship of the OJC 2016 sports fiesta went home with cash prizes for their victories.

While Goddy Obuoha came tops in the table  tennis event, Chinedu Ometalamu placed second on the log while Godstime Obidinma was the third best.
