Falcons move up to 40 in FIFA rankings

By Daily Sports Nigeria on June 10, 2023

Nigeria have moved two places in the latest FIFA women’s rankings released by the Federation of International Football Association, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Super Falcons, who were ranked  42nd in the world in the ranking released in March, gained three points to move to 40th.

Randy Waldrum’s side maintained their first position in Africa.

The Falcons’ rise in the rankings was largely due to their impressive performance at the exhibition in Turkey.

The Nigeria senior women’s national team won three consecutive games after snapping out of their seven-match winless run to continue their preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup scheduled to hold from July 20 to August 20.

The ranking released by FIFA on Friday is the final before the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand next month.

Nigeria will begin their World Cup campaign against Canada July 21.

Alongside the Falcons, South Africa, Morocco and Zambia will represent Africa at the women’s World Cup.

The next ranking will be published on August 25.
