By DAILYSPORTS NIGERIA on August 25, 2022

Nigeria will host the African Nations Volleyball Championship (U-18 Girls), from August 30 to September 10 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The championship is a competition for national teams, featuring players under the age of 18. It is a biennial competition organised by the African Volleyball Federation.

Nigeria won the competition when it hosted it for the first time in 2020, but Tunisia is the most successful nation at the event, having won it eight times since it started in 1994.

According to African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) President, Bouchra Hajij, who announced Nigeria as the host of the championship, the event would be held in accordance with CAVB competition regulations.

The male event, ended, at the weekend, with Nigeria failing to win a medal and losing out on the race to qualify for the FIVB World championships. The girls are looking to do better and qualify for the world championship.

Thirteen countries have so far signified intention to participate in the championship, with organisers promising that all has been put in place to ensure a hitch-free competition.
