English FA Probe Arsenal Player On Betting

By Daily Sports on January 21, 2022

The FA’s betting probe into an Arsenal player reportedly centres around a £55,000 in-play gamble being placed on a booking.

Bookmakers had reported 'suspicious betting patterns' surrounding a Gunners star being carded.

Bookies flagged an 'unusual amount of money being placed on the Arsenal player being shown a yellow', The Athletic first reported.

And now according to the Daily Mail, the probe followed after the huge £55k punt was placed on a Gunners booking towards the end of a match.

They say the FA’s intelligence and integrity analysts are leading inquiries with Betradar.

Betradar are a sports data company that specialises in identifying 'unusual bets and the potential for spot-fixing and match-fixing'.

The governing body are yet to formally launch an investigation and are expected to speak with Arsenal and their players before doing so.

An industry expert who studied trading patterns for the match told the Mail that while the betting was highly unusual, it was unlikely to involve any corruption.

He explained: "The trading in the ten minutes prior to that yellow is nothing like I have ever seen before.

"It looks unusual but the most plausible thing is that it is the perfect storm of punters opposing each other rather than fixing.

"I have got to emphasise it is people losing money as well as winning.

"I don’t think Premier League footballers on £175,000 a week are fixing, even to the slightly larger amounts you can win on exchanges."

Football has been rocked by gambling scandals in the past.

England and Newcastle star Kieran Trippier was fined £70,000 and banned for 10 weeks for a breach in December 2020.

And earlier that year, former Three Lions and Liverpool ace Daniel Sturridge was also banned for four four months because of transfer information he gave to his family. (UK  Sun)
