Amuneke talks tough as Flying Eagles return

By Daily Sports on May 24, 2016

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria are back in the country after their gallant performance against Young Swallows of Burundi in Bujumbura.

The delegation comprising 18 players and twelve officials touched down at the Nnamdi Azikwe international Airport Abuja at 11.35am on Monday, two days after their lone goal victory in the East African Country.

The team drove straight from the Airport to the Serob legacy hotel camp of the team in Wuye, Abuja and will return to full training on Tuesday evening before departing on Wednesday to Calabar, venue of the June 11return leg tie with the Swallows of Burundi.

Team coach Emmanuel Amuneke was all smiles on arrival and used the occasion to once again congratulate his boys, while stressing that the job is not yet completed.

''Success has many friends he said, today we are happy because we have brought smiles to the faces of Nigerians but as i have always emphasized, the journey is still very long and we must take each game as they come. We are done with the first leg, we must return to work immediately ahead of the return leg. It is only when we have gone past that hurdle that we can breath a sigh of relief but even then, we still have Sudan to play in July to guarantee a spot at the CAF U-20 Nations cup in Zambia."

The 18 players will be joined by the 12 others left behind in Abuja for the trip to Calabar where the eagles will play their last two home fixtures, the return leg with Burundi on June 11 and the second leg against Sudan on July 22.

Victory in both matches and a good result in Omdurman will all but guarantee Nigeria's qualification for the youth soccer fiesta which Nigeria has won for a record seven times and are the current defending champions. The top four teams from this competition will qualify for the Under-20 World Youth Championship in South Korea next year.
