NPFL mid-season tansfer window opens

By Daily Sports on May 23, 2016

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) mid-season transfer window has taken effect on Monday, a day after first round matches were concluded.

Though there are outstanding matches involving Nigerian champions Enyimba, Enugu Rangers, El-Kanemi Warriors, Abia Warriors, Wikki Tourists and Warri Wolves, the second transfer window will go on as scheduled on the league calendar.

The LMC had abolished what used to be a mini-transfer window of some sorts after nine rounds of matches in the top-flight to a standard pre-season transfer window and then a mid-season transfer window.

The clubs in the NPFL have at least two weeks to sign up players on a permanent or loan basis until June 3, which is two days before the commencement of the second round.

However, the League Management Company (LMC), which oversees the day-to-day activities in the NPFL, has demanded that for any registered player with a club to be approved for the second round, the clubs must provide attestation letters, as stated in the league's rule book.

“Kindly be advised that pursuant to Rules B9.61 and B9.63 of the Framework and Rules of the NPFL, the Second Transfer Window of the 2015/16 NPFL season opens at 8.00am on Monday, May 23 and closes at 5.00pm on Friday, June 3, 2016.

"Therefore, within this period, any club may apply for the new registration of a player or to have the registration of a player transferred to it or for a temporary transfer. Pursuant to Rules B9.45.2 and Rules B9.45.4.4, every club is expected to submit the attestation by each of its currently registered players as a pre-condition for registration. This is to ensure that there are no overdue payments owed the players,” the LMC wrote to clubs.

The LMC stated that the move to demand for attestation is "to prevent and minimise the incident of indebtedness to players which become manifest towards the end of every season."

There is also the financial performance guarantee, which is one of the conditions for NPFL clubs to show their financial capacity to meet their obligations to their playing and coaching personnel. (supersports.com)
