Onyekuru Opens Up Olympiacos Move

By Daily sports on August 4, 2021

Nigeria international Henry Onyekuru has explained why he joined Greek champions Olympiacos from French Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco.

The speedy attacker joined the Red and Whites on a permanent deal over the weekend after spending last season on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Onyekuru, who was recently linked with Turkish clubs Besiktas and Fenerbahce, has signed a four-year contract with Olympiacos.

The 24-year-old explained that joining a club like Olympiacos guarantees him UEFA Champions League football.

“I know it is a big club in Greece, one of the biggest and they have good ambition and target every season and they are always in the Champions League,” Onyekuru told the club’s official website.

“I also know of two Nigerians who played here before and I am just here to contribute and keep on pushing and also to be champions countless times, achieve more goals and aims with the club.

“I am happy to be here and ready to achieve more with the club.”

Onyekuru scored five goals in 14 Super Lig matches for Galatasaray in what was his third loan stint with record 22-time Turkish champions.

The Lagos-born star joined Galatasaray from Monaco on a six-month loan with no option to buy midway through the 2019/2020 season.

Prior to that, Onyekuru had spent the 2018/19 campaign with Galatasaray on loan from former English champions Everton FC.

He has scored twice in 12 international matches for Nigeria. (African Football)
