Finidi George Not Giving Up On Coaching Nigeria

Nigeria legend Finidi George has not given up his dream of managing any of the national teams.

Considered to be one of Nigeria’s greatest ever wingers, George has a wealth experience after a storied playing career in Europe.

George won three Eredivisie titles with Ajax and started in the Champions League final triumph over AC Milan in 1995.

He would go on to become a legend at Spanish club Real Betis, where George spent four years.

After retiring from playing in 2004, George earned his Uefa A Licence which is one level below the highest qualification, the Pro Licence, and has since spent time coaching in Real Mallorca's youth set-up.

George revealed he has been rejected twice to manage the Nigeria U17 team.

But the 50-year-old, who won 62 caps for Nigeria, remains hopeful he will get an opportunity to pass valuable knowledge onto his young countrymen.

“I applied for the Nigeria U17 team job twice and I was refused on both occasions,” George told TribalFootball.com.

“I have not given up. Once that possibility arises again, I will apply and see what happens. I never threw in the towel.

“Nigeria have some coaches at the moment in charge of the team and we all wish them the best. If the possibility comes again, i think I'm still available and I will apply.”

Asked about his current coaching plans, George replied: “I have done coaching in the past with the youth teams. The Under 15, Under 19 and Under 23 in Spain and Holland.

“But at the moment, I’m not involved in coaching crew here in Europe.

“I think I have gained lots of experience over the years and I look forward to working with a club either in Europe or Nigeria. I hope the opportunity arises and I will go for it.” (Tribal Football)
