Match Preview: Lobi Stars vs. MFM FC

The match day 15 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will see Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi trade tackles with red-hot Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club of Lagos at the Aper Aku Stadium this weekend.

Both teams are in good shape going into this game. The host won their last home match with a 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna and claimed a 2-2 draw in their last away match against NPFL champions, Enyimba international Football Club of Aba.

MFM FC on the hand put up a wonderful display in their last home game in Lagos with a resounding 3-0 victory over reigning Federation Cup champions, Akwa United Football Club of Uyo after a disappointing outing against Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia.

The two sides will be meeting on Sunday for the second time in their history. The first meeting was in 2013 in the round of 32 of the National Challenge Cup, Lobi Stars FC defeated MFM FC 2-0 in Nnewi.

The Olukoya Boys registered their first win in the top-flight against Nasarawa United Football Club of Minna with a 2-1 triumph at the Aper Aku Stadium in match day 1, while Lobi Stars beat Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan in their first league match of the ongoing season.

Resilient defender, Austin Opara is expected to lead the team’s defence with either Aiyeyemi James or Nasamu Emmanuel in goal. Ex-junior international, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi is also expected in the middle of the park alongside Onuwa Chukwuka and Atu Irumekhai.

Coach Fidelis Ilechuckwu will be banking on the likes of Sikiru Olatunbosun, Stephen Odey, Monday Shinshinma, Adekunle Adegboyega, Chidi Akuneto and experienced Newman Musa to score the needed goals.

The two sides have played 14 league matches and amassed 22 points from a possible 42, the home side sits in the 6th position while the visitors occupy the 8th spot on the log. A win in this fixture will move MFM FC into the top four position.
