Proprietor of defunct Gabros Intentional FC, Mr. Gabriel Chukwuma, has thrown his weight behind the catch-them-young initiative of ex-Super Falcons star, Maureen Mmadu.

The project tagged Anambra Football Kiddies Camp was initiated by the queen of the round leather game to train, mentor and equip young girls aged 10 to 15 years with necessary tools to becoming successful footballers.

The project is also geared towards developing talents that will be future Falconets and even playing for international female clubsides.

Addressing journalists in his country home in Nnewi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chukwuma expressed joy that Ms Mmadu chose to return home where she started to initiate the holiday camp for budding talents.

He described the project as a noble one, saying that such is what the country needs to meet up the with the competition as is obtainable abroad.

The former club owner regretted that sports administration has been left in the hands of people with no technical knowhow of the game, thereby allowing retardation to creep in.

He said: “I applaud this young lady for this noble objective. This is what our football administration in Nigeria should be doing to ensure the gap is constantly bridged. My secret then as a club owner was to always go for the best, in so doing, my team stood out and players were picked from it to play for Nigeria team.

“When I was abroad, I noticed that they have different ages from under-10 to under-20 always in training and from there, they pick up the best to beef the bigger teams. You don’t wait till you exhaust what you have to plan, you plan ahead.

“I am glad you decided to do this in your home state where you started and for that, you should be encouraged. I will support you all the way, keep up with the good work you are doing. There are many great talents in this state but it takes this kind of platform to discover them.”

While calling on well-meaning indigenes of the state to support the project, Chukwuma called on parents to use the opportunity presented by the ex-Falconet to encourage their children with interest in football to embrace the opportunity.
